PRSM is a “brand new way to share everything” with “No ads, ever; Unlimited Storage; 320 million people”. The page was created by a company called datacoup, who describes what the intention of getprsm is:
In light of recent events regarding the NSA’s sweeping data collection program, we put together a parody site that hopefully draws a laugh and some further attention to the issue. Please share!
Datacoup is making it possible for users to “sell their data”, quite similar to what a recent startup, commodify.us is doing.
Recently, startups and businesses such as whistle.im (which was dubbed “fuckup as a service” recently by the CCC) try to make big bucks with scared users. Theverge was publishing an article in june 2013 titled “Spy stoppers: meet the companies benefiting from the PRISM privacy scare“. It will be interesting to see how PRISM and recent leaking scandals will change the way people use encryption – which could mean that the NSA will only keep data longer.
